Barrie Confidential Inc. takes responsibility for all client information under our control.

If it is necessary to use third parties to process client information, we will ensure that all third parties’ transferring of information is afforded a comparable level of protection to that which we maintain.


All files received from our corporate, government and private clientele will be reviewed to ensure the requests for information are compliant with PIPEDA. Where applicable, notations will be made on files indicating oral reporting of information.

Changes made to the initial criteria of an investigation will require consent for the new use if and only if it differs significantly from the purpose for which it was initially contracted.


Consent will be obtained from all clients for collection/disclosure of information, except where exceptions are allowed under the law. Expressed consent will be obtained for the collection, user disclosure of client information, or when it can be determined that consent has been implied by the circumstances.

Obtaining the knowledge and consent of subjects would defeat the purpose of an investigation, in particular with respect to a breach of an agreement or contravention of a law. Subject's information will only be collected, used and disclosed without his or her consent in accordance with Section 7 of the Personal Information Protection and Electronics Documents Act, S.C. 2000, c.5 (PIPEDA) or under other lawful means.


The information that we collect will be limited to that which is necessary for purposes we have identified. We will only collect information for specific, legitimate purposes. We will not collect information indiscriminately. Our policies and procedures relating to the limitations on collection of information will be regularly communicated to our investigators who deal with the collection, use and disclosure of information. Information is only retained as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes. Information that is no longer required to fulfill identified purposes will be destroyed, erased or made anonymous.

Information may be used, disclosed or retained for legitimate purposes and not identified to the individual to whom the information pertains in those situations.


The information collected will be accurate, complete and up-to-date. Our goal is to minimize the possibility that information may be used to make a decision based on the personal information we process.

  • Information provided by client
  • Verification by client of accuracy and completeness, regular reviews
  • Verification of information using third parties

All discrepancies will be corrected/amended where errors or omissions are identified. The corrected/amended information will be forwarded to third parties that have been part of the information collection process.


All information under our control will be safeguarded in a manner appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. All Barrie Confidential Inc.'s staff (investigators, administration staff, management) will be trained in the policies and procedures necessary to safeguard all clientele information. We do not electronically transfer to our clients unless the electronic files have been encrypted with an industry standard encryption program before being transferred. Distribution of information will be on a need-to-know basis.

Disposal/destruction of information to safeguard same from unauthorized parties gaining access will include:

  • Shredding documents prior to recycling
  • Deleting electronically stored information by a qualified IT technician
